Other notable features of update 1.2
7 Days To Die received its first major update. This update brought several changes and bug fixes. However, its main purpose was to introduce crossplay elements. Fans can now play with friends on different platforms. Although there are some limitations, it has been received positively by most players.
The ability to play across platforms is becoming more and more popular. Huge game developers and indie developers alike are working hard to bring crossplay features to their games. As regards 7 days to death crossplay capabilities were the number one priority. Fun Pimps pushed the changes for this update just before Christmas 2024, much to the delight of fans.

How Crossplay works
PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X players can now host peer-to-peer multiplayer sessions on all of the above platforms. 7 Days To Die's Crossplay features work for all Pregen maps. It also works for random gene maps. However, this feature has some limitations.

It's also important to note that if you're playing on PC, your game files must be unchanged for crossplay to work. The two main options for crossplay are session hosting and session joining. Follow the instructions below to set up these features.
How to host a session
When you launch the game and select either Continue Game or New Game, you'll see a few settings on the right side of the screen. Whether you're setting up a new game or continuing with an old save, the session hosting process works the same way.
The first option is Server Enabled. You must switch this setting to online in order to host a session. Once this is turned on, you will be able to toggle other settings in the list. The next thing you'll want to change is Server Visibility. Unfortunately, at the time of writing it is not possible to use the crossplay features if the server visibility is set to friends. You will need to set this option to public instead. You can put a password on your session to prevent random people from connecting. That said, at the time of writing, there are a few restrictions on joining random players.
Once the server visibility is set to public, you will need to turn on Crossplay Enabled. After doing this, you need to make sure that the Max Players option is set to 8 or lower. At the time of writing, it is not possible to host a session larger than this. Doing so will prevent friends from finding your world. Once you've done that, you can load the world and your friends should be able to join you.
How to join a session
Joining a session is much easier than hosting. After the game loads, select Join A Game. From there, you'll need to enter the gamertag of the person you're trying to connect with.
Once you've entered the person's name, click Start Search. If the name is correct, their name will be displayed and you will be able to connect to their server. If your friend put a password on the server, you'll need to make sure you have it or you won't be able to join them. Once inside, you can start exploring, looting and killing enemies with your friends.
Crossplay restrictions
Unfortunately, there are a few limitations to the crossplay features available in the 7 Days To Die. The biggest one is the lack of dedicated servers. According to the update notes, dedicated servers are being worked on, but so far crossplay only works in peer-to-peer games. Dedicated servers will be released with the game's next major update; Storms Brewing.
There are also limits on the size of the world and the number of players. The more players on a given server, the greater the risk of performance issues. The better your system or console, the smoother the game.
The maximum world size at the time of writing is 8192. That's still a pretty respectable map size. But some players will want to be able to play on bigger maps in the future. It is unclear if the developers will further increase the map size limit for crossplay.
Something else worth noting is that the maximum number of players supported for crossplay is 8. While there are some players who want more, 8 players is still a respectable number. It is unclear if this number will be increased by Fun Pimps in the future. For those on PC, it is also not possible to host modded worlds. It is important to remove or disable all mods before setting up a crossplay session.
Unfortunately, not everyone has access to crossplay features at this time. Those playing the Japanese PS5 version of the game cannot yet play with friends on different consoles. That is set to change soon, but no specific date has been set. The only thing that is known about it is that this problem should be fixed earlier this year.
Other notable features of update 1.2
7 Days To Die update 1.2 introduced several useful bug fixes and improvements, some of which were made to facilitate crossplay. One issue before this update was that Xbox and PS5 players couldn't find their friends in the server browser. This is now fixed.
There is now a list of blocked items that can be found in the settings menu. This is a much needed feature as it allows players to block any cheaters or toxic players while being able to track their names to prevent them from joining again. Unfortunately, cheating and griefing are things that happen in almost every online game. Being able to have an active player block list helps keep those players away.
Several new graphics options have also been added, giving players more control over the game's performance. This is great for those who play on systems that may struggle to hold a crossplay session with high-end graphics. Alternatively, those playing on high-end systems can now increase the overall graphics quality to incredible levels.
Another thing to note is that the game now has better blood mood scaling. This is ideal for players playing with friends, as it means that the number of enemies and the overall difficulty of enemies that appear will better match the skill and stage of play of the players within a session.
