How to get horse mounts in Palia
There are currently three horses in it Paley: Dawnspur, Akwindu Thoroughbred and Phoenixfire Dawnspur. You can get the first one by doing a quick task, while the other two require real money purchases. However, once you've unlocked these three mount breeds, you can purchase similar mounts from the Ranching Store using gold coins. Here is an overview of the acquisition methods for each breed:
Unlock the Dawnspur Breed (Pre-Dawn Quest Guide)
Dawnspur is a free horse that you get in this magical game, although you will have to complete the Before the Dawn quest to hunt it down. Fortunately, this quest can be easily started in the Royal Highlands and you don't have to keep up with the main story to complete it and own your first horse.
To complete the quest Before Dawn in Paleyfollow these steps:
- First, just enter the Royal Highlands.
- Talk to Hassian, who can be found on the west side of Lonely Glen. For an easy find, keep going west from the entrance gate (Lochland Dock) and you'll see him standing near a horse stuck in an amber prison (glowing gold ores).
- Use any tool to break the amber prison knots around the horse. Press R to access your primary tool inventory and equip any bow, then break the knots a few times until they split.
- Collect any three local flowers in the Royal Highlands to interact with Hassian again. This will trigger a cutscene where you appear to be feeding the horse, completing the Before the Dawn quest and giving you the Dawnspur horse in the game. Paley.
We used a makeshift bow to break the amber prison around Dawnspur and it took nine shots to free the horse completely. The number of shots can vary depending on the type of bow and arrows you are using. We also fed Dawnspur Lily and Royal Heather as they are among the most common plants found in Lonely Glen and are easy to pick.

Unlock the Akwindu thoroughbred breed
Akwindu Thoroughbred is a breed of Arabian horse that you can only capture by purchasing one of these two premium packs in the shop:
- Highlands Supporter Pack ($29.99)
- Royal Highlands Supporter Pack ($59.99)
If you're wondering which one offers the better value, we believe the second pack is definitely the better choice, even if it's a bit more expensive.
Not only does it give you a license to breed akwind Thoroughbreds through the Ranching system, but it also includes a special version of the horse with Electric VFX properties (along with other perks included in the pack). This can lead to even nicer montages. This means that you can still farm traits even on the standard version, although it will naturally require more time and effort.
Unlock Phoenixfire Dawnspur Breed
One of the most impressive montages Paley is Phoenixfire Dawnspur. To grab it, you'll need to purchase one of these paid packs from the store:
- Phoenixfire Rider's License (2550 Palia Coins)
- Phoenixfire Dawnspur Starter Pack (2,975 Palia Coins)
Palia Coins is the game's premium currency, which you can also buy in the store. The first pack gives you a special mount plus an Insta-Grow cookie that helps it grow from pup to adult faster so you can ride it sooner. The second pack lets you get more of these horses from the farm shop and also gives you a Phoenixfire Dawnspur with an Alabaster Flame trait that changes its appearance. The exact skin you get is random.
You can only ranch horses whose breeds you have already acquired.

How to ride horses in Palia
Horses have two main stats: speed and stamina. Speed controls how fast or slow it runs and has six levels. Plus, they don't have unlimited stamina. Mounts get tired and stop running. You can restore their stamina by collecting golden glowing orbs while driving.
Now here's how to mount the mounts Paley:

Press R and select a mount slot from the Primary Tools wheel to summon your mount. When it appears, you will automatically ride it.

Press W (or up arrow) to move forward. Press it multiple times to make the horse go faster.

Press WITH (or Down Arrow) to slow down or stop.

Press Flat jump. If that doesn't work, you can set the jump button in the settings (Control Settings > Keyboard Shortcuts > General Gameplay > Jump/Glide).

Press X get off the horse.
Players can change their connection control keys in Keybinding under Control Settings. They can also adjust the camera movement while driving and attach background movement options in the Settings menu.
How to change horse mounts in Palia
Once you get your first Dawnspur through a quest, it will automatically appear in one of your Primary Tool slots. However, if you want to exchange it for one you purchased or bred at the ranch, you can certainly do so. To exchange your horse Paleyjust do this:
- Go to Collection from the Inventory menu (or press Y).
- Jump into the saddle icon (sixth in a row).
- Equip the desired holder.
Note that you can only equip mounts that are adults or older. Baby mounts will not appear in the saddle icon until you feed them Insta-Grow Biscuits or wait for them to grow.
