Contender in Dungeon Masters critical role announced

Wizards of the Coast today announced Dungeon Masters, “the official true Dungeons and Dragons game series.” If that sounds a lot like a critical role, it is. Except it is officialwhich, admittedly, is quite a big word in this context.

Starring Neil Newbon, Devora Wilde, Christian Navarro and Mayanna Berrin and Jasmine Bhullar as Dungeon Master (DM). Wizards of the Coast promises some pretty compelling secondary reasons for people to give the show a chance.

Come with us

In the official trailer, we can see the actors having a good (and sometimes not so good) time together, although I hesitate to say that it's a critical one-on-one role – and there's room in the world for a lot of them! – comparison they are rather startling. I wish the team the best of luck and hope it's as much fun as the longtime fan favorite.

Anyway, here's how Wizards of the Coast builds a cast of Dungeon Masters:

“Dungeon Masters brings together an acclaimed lineup of gaming, television and streaming talent, starring Jasmine Bhullar (DesiQuest, Dimension 20) as the Dungeon Master, Mayanna Berrin (Dispatch, StoryQuest), Christian Navarro (13 Reasons Why, Forgotten of New Selbons'B Gate and Tears) Devora Wilde (Baldur's Gate III) and will give fans the opportunity to play unreleased content on D&D Beyond directly after each episode.

The show's first arc will feature Ravenloft, “a dark and atmospheric setting filled with mystery, suspense and gothic horror.” Wizards is bringing the June 16th expansion Ravenloft: The Horrors Within to this campaign, which – notably! – premieres on April 16. This means viewers will get plenty of neatly presented preview content for the exciting upcoming addition. Also of note is award-winning composer David Arkenstone, who is on board to helm Dungeon Master's atmospheric soundtrack.

Wizards of the Coast's Dungeons & Dragons boss, Dan Ayoub, touts the new series as “our love letter to the true theater that introduced so much to D&D.” So it's not talking about a critical role, but it's similar in the world of content creation. I morning kinda excited to see how it all plays out with the official license benefit. “Our goal with Dungeon Masters is to crystallize everything that's great about the actual game – the tension, the drama and the unpredictable nature – and put our stamp on it with the upcoming official source material.”
