In the world one piece the Kozuki family is the current ruling clan of the land of Wano. Their crest is a bird with an orb on its breast, surrounded by four shoots. They recently regained their position after being deposed by the long-standing alliance between the Kurozumi Family and the Beasts Pirates.

The Kozuki family managed to break this alliance through a combination of their own secret domestic supporters and a number of outside allies such as various pirate crews and the Zou mink tribe. Five members of the family are currently known in detail, although other relatives have been mentioned in passing.

His charisma won him a significant following in Wano. His most loyal allies decided to follow him and become servants worthy of the future shogun.

Although he eventually matured into a more capable and caring leader, the boundaries of Wan still could not contain him. Oden took to the seas with the Whitebeard Pirates, even achieving the rank of division commander. After a lengthy battle and subsequent truce between the Whitebeard Pirates and the Roger Pirates, Oden decided to join their crew instead, much to Whitebeard's chagrin. Oden was present with the Roger Pirates when they discovered the Story of Laughter, One Piece, and presumably the truth of the world.

Returning to Wana, Oden discovered that Kurozumi Orochi had become the Shogun with Kaido's help. When Orochi demanded Oden's execution, Oden died smiling, remaining a legend among those who knew the extent of his deeds. For the two decades that followed, Oden was a malevolent figure as Orochi's propaganda undermined his heroism and abilities as a warrior. This means that it was his memory that ultimately fanned the flames to overthrow the Kurozumi Shogunate. Oden's son Momonosuke became shogun and sought to atone for the previous clan's smear campaign.

She was approached by traffickers who were frightened by Oden, whose body was swollen at the time. Oden broke the call to help Toki, and Whitebeard accepted the pair into the crew. Toki also spent time with the Roger Pirates before she fell ill, leading to her return to Wan with their children and Oden's two remaining charges.

As Orochi hunted down the Kozuki family and their allies, Toki prepared to send her son Momonosuke into the future, another ability her Devil Fruit granted her. She then spoke of a prophecy that assured that the Kozuki family would rise once more to defy Orochi's rule before she was shot. Although few respected her words at the time, Orochi was rightly afraid of the day of his doom.

Shogun of Wano

kozuki momonosuke the most powerful family of one piece

  • Debut: Chapter 684 (Manga), Episode 609 (Anime)

  • Devil Fruit: Artificial Copy of Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryuu

Kozuki Momonosuke was the eldest child and only son of Oden and Toki, born on Moby Dick. When Wano fell to Orochi, his mother sent him 20 years into the future along with four subjects; Kin'emon, Kanjuro, Raizo and Kikunojo. The five formulated a plan to take Wan back, which included recruiting Zou's mink tribe.

Unfortunately, on the way to Zou, a series of events lead to Momonosuke being transported to Punk Hazard. There he ate SMILE, a collapsed Zoan Devil Fruit identical to Kaido's. This allowed him to transform into an Azure Dragon, but with a different color scheme. He was eventually rescued by Kin'emon, who teamed up with the Straw Hat Pirates and Trafalgar D. Water Law. While traveling with the Straw Hats, Momonosuke shared a bond with Monkey D. Luffy.

Momonosuke's allies wished to install him as shogun after the overthrow of Orochi. Unfortunately, he was kidnapped by Kanjuro, who was secretly Kurozumi. Momonosuke was told that he would be spared if he denied being Oden's son, but he proudly stated his name and was eventually rescued.

Momonosuke later took a more active role in defending Wan by begging Shinoba to mature him with her Devil Fruit. She gave in and let him age to 28, which is the age he would be if he lived in the present instead of time traveling into it. This allowed his dragon transformation to grow in size and become a viable combat ability. After Luffy's defeat of Kaido, Momonosuke became Shogun of Wan. Although he still has the brain of an eight-year-old, he also has the support of many of his father's past allies.

Kozuki Hiyori

Oden's daughter

Kozuki Hiyori (1)

  • Debut: Chapter 909 (Manga), Episode 892 (Anime)

  • Devil Fruit: None

Hiyori is the daughter and youngest child of Oden and Toki. Unlike her brother, she lived and aged normally. Like her brother, she gained protection from Oden's loyal servants. Her first nurse was Kawamatsu, a fish man who resembled a kappa. Kawamatsu worked diligently to feed Hiyori, but she felt guilty for seeing him starve while she was eating.

She was brought to Kyoshiro, the Yakuza boss under Orochi. Kyoshiro was secretly another of Oden's servants named Denjiro and kept Hiyori safe from the shogun's nose. Hiyori was groomed to become an oiran, a refined courtesan with artistic skills. Under her alias Komurasaki, Hiyori gained the admiration of her fellow performers and citizens alike.

She later came into conflict with Orochi, who disrespected her friend Toko and ended up attacking her. Denjiro staged Hiyori's “death” to keep the couple safe. They later came into contact with Zoro, who Hiyori had given Enma, a high quality blade that her father owned, in exchange for Zoro's own Shusui. Hiyori and Denjiro were responsible for getting rid of Orochi, who learned of Hiyori's true identity before his death. Hiyori's role in the new Wano is unclear, but she was seen playing the shamisen accompanied by Toko during a school lecture about the Battle of Onigashima.

2

Kozuki Sukiyaki

Former shogun of Wano

Sukiyaki as Shogun and years later as Tenguyama Hitecu

  • Debut: Chapter 911 (Manga), Episode 894 (Anime)

  • Devil Fruit: None

Kozuki Sukiyaki was a former daimyo of Wan and Oden's father. Sukiyaki was at first one of the many disapproving presences in Oden's life, banishing Oden from the Flower Capital. After Oden brought order to the lawless Kuri region, he grew to respect his son. Unable to speak to his son before Oden's murder, Sukiyaki was ashamed that the plot to take over Wano had succeeded. He fled the capital to live as a hermit under the alias Tenguyama Hitecu.

He acted as a mentor and surrogate father to a kunoichi-in-training named Tama, seemingly unaware of her connection to the Kurozumi family. Sukiyaki was also a famous swordsman who forged the meito or famous blades. He exhibits great meito knowledge and is able to discuss it in great detail with Roronoa Zoro. He can also read poneglyphs and write in their language.

Other relatives

Oden's ancestors

The Kozuki family is credited with creating the Poneglyphs and their language at the end of the Void Century. Oden was the last known descendant to have this ability. They have historical ties to the Zou mink tribe, which led Inuarashi and Nekomamushi to travel to Wano as young children to become guardians of Kozuki Oden.

In addition to the Amatsuki family, other distant ancestors of the Kozuki clan include Kotetsu, the swordsman who created Sukiyaki's cursed katana, Nidai Kitetsu. The family was historically associated with the Shimotsuki family. Several of their current relatives, such as Yasuie, his adopted daughter Toko, and Roronoa Zoro (whose grandmother was Shimotsuki) help them in their quest to restore the Kozuki clan to power.

Once the poneglyphs become central to the story, the Kozuki family's motives for creating them will likely become apparent. It is possible that their lack of ties to the World Government and the closed borders of Wano are a result of the historical distrust or hostility their ancestors had towards those who wish to erase the history of the Void Century.
