Fixes for common bugs and problems with loot filters in Diablo 4

Creating your own loot filter in any game can be pretty confusing, and the same goes for Diablo 4. The game uses a fairly simple logic system to filter out the loot that drops during play sessions, but if this is your first time making your own ruleset, you've probably run into some of the issues below. So if you are struggling with how to filter your loot Diablo 4 work, try the following tricks.

Diablo 4 Adding a loot filter would only solve half the equation

Although the loot filter is one of the most requested additions to Diablo 4, it needs to be accompanied by another change to be truly effective.

Are the settings overwritten? Check your rule priorities

As in most other ARPG games, Diablo 4 favors the rules of its top-down loot filters. If your loot filter isn't displaying things correctly, then there's a pretty good chance it's because the rule is buried under the priority list. In the sample loot filter above, I added two Rules: one that recolors gear with a critical strike chance purple, and another that recolors items with the Demonology suffix blue.

By placing the Purple Crit Rule at the top of the load order the game will recolor all crits purple because this rule has a higher priority than the others. This means that a device with a critical chance and Demonology stickers will turn purple.

Conversely, if I put the Blue Demonological rule over the Purple critical rule, all crits will still be marked purple, but now all demonic equipment will be blue, even if they have a chance to crit. That's why Diablo 4 he sees the blue demonology rule as more important than the other.

Still showing filtered items? Here's how to hide them

If your Diablo 4 loot filter doesn't hide the right items, then you'll want to create a base rule with a condition that is set to hide every single item in the game and place it at the end of the load sequence. Then create new rules with conditions set to Show or Recolor and filter out the equipment you want.

Create a Hide All base layer to hide all items not explicitly included in your own Diablo 4 prey filter. This will save you all the headaches of having individual hiding rules that may interfere with your other terms and conditions. The images above continue our crit and demonology amulets example, except this time I've used the Hide All Rule, which prevents all other items in the game from showing when they drop.

If you want to use this trick, I recommend creating Show Rules rules for each item category in the game and filter out the stats you want to see. Keep in mind that from lord of hate Unique items in Diablo 4 now drop with random affixes.

Don't forget to enable the loot filter

The last thing you'll want to check is that you actually have the correct loot filter enabled. Then go to the Loot Filter window make sure the drop down box in the top left shows the correct filter. Also, make 100% sure that the boxes next to your rule names are checked. Once you're sure everything is where it should be, save your loot filter and try it out.
