Overwatch has officially launched the new Junkrat's Loot Hunt event, offering double Battle Pass XP from now until May 12th. This double weekend event should deliver Overwatch players have plenty of reasons to log in ahead of the mid-Season 2 update, which should arrive shortly after.
Junkrat's Loot Hunt is a filler event that Overwatch returns periodically to add some extra incentive to log in during downtime. By playing games during the event, fans can earn up to nine loot boxes for free. When the event first took place in June 2025, it featured daily milestones where one had to play a certain number of games each day to earn their loot boxes, but in later iterations this was changed to allow progress to carry over to the weekend.

Matchmaking in Junkrat's Loot Hunt uses a guided progression system that we've seen in other events recently, including Overwatch x Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred cross. Each Loot Box is earned after five games, with stadium matches and wins counting as double progress. This means that progression to the next Loot Box will not open until you get the last one. If a player has four of the five required Loot Box games, further progress will not carry over to the next Loot Box challenge if they win their game.
Meanwhile, the XP boost specifically applies to the XP Battle Pass Overwatch fans earn for completing matches. Completing a match typically grants between 700 and 1,000 Battle Pass XP, with extras awarded for victories and longer games. Playing in a group adds an additional 20% buff, while queuing for desired roles adds an extra 100 to 500 XP. All of this is multiplied by a double XP boost, meaning players who cash in on all of these bonuses can easily earn over 2,000 Battle Pass XP per winning match.
This double event comes at an ideal time. Overwatch Reign of Talon Season 2 started on April 15th and will run until June 16th, which means that the mid-season update will most likely happen on May 12th, right when Junkrat's Loot Hunt ends. While fans don't know what else is coming in this update, Jetpack Cat will be coming to the stadium and Ra Ana, the second Mythic support hero skin, will be added to the shop. Additionally, a new slew of balance tweaks will be implemented, likely including another fine-tuning for Sierra, the deadly DPS hero added in Overwatch this season.
With season three just over a month away, it won't be long before fans start seeing hints of what's next Overwatch coming soonincluding another hero. Overwatch leaks suggest that it will be a Cassidy-like Damage hero, so players will have to wait and see how accurate those rumors are when the character is officially revealed.
