There are many cards from Magic: The GatheringAn Edge of Eternities set worth chasing even months after the set's debut, like the shock lands cycle or the new Planeswalker version of Tezzeret. Edge of Eternities also ended up being one of the most successful sets of the year and also enjoyed a very positive reception among players. It's probably one of the best standard sets to draft and open boosters right now Magic: The Gatheringto the point that it was designed more than Spider-Man when the latter came out. Still, it's basically impossible to get the best card in the set right now, and things can get worse over time.
This is not unusual for some Magic: The Gathering the cards have become very popular among players, which then affects their prices or even the prices of the products of their respective sets. For example, MTGThe $800 Izzet Cauldron deck was amazingly priced due to Vivi Ornitier's popularity and sheer power, but Agatha's Soul Cauldron also cost around $50 or more for a single copy. Now, MTGQuantum Riddler from Edge of Eternities literally suffers from success for several reasons:
-
Quantum Riddler is played in multiplayer Magic: The Gathering Modern, Pioneer and Standard decks to great success.
-
It's a powerful and flexible card that allows for cheap card draws with the option of a later 4/6 body and makes great use of the warp mechanic. MTG's Edge of Eternities.
-
The price for a copy of Quantum Riddler is slowly increasing to the point where the actual average on TCGPlayer and other sites is closer to $60 compared to the previous prices of $35-40.
-
It will survive popular removal like Dismember, making it more desirable.
-
It is one of the most played cards in Modern across the entire format, especially in Esper Blink decks.
-
Edge of Eternities products as a whole are becoming less and less easy to find at decent prices, if at all. The EoE Play Booster display costs around $160, with no guarantee of a copy of Quantum Riddler. The Collector Booster has raised the odds, but each is priced at $35-$36.
-
Quantum Riddler's price on MTG online is around 115 tix so a digital copy is extremely expensive.
In Magic: The Gathering Online, 1 tix equals $1, which means that Quantum Riddler is effectively $115 on MTGO.
Say goodbye to magic: The Gathering's Quantum Riddler
It follows that Edge of Eternities or individual copies of Quantum Riddler can be extremely expensive to purchase, both in paper and online. Even before the set came out, Quantum Riddler was one of the most expensive Magic: The Gathering cards in Edge of Eternities, and with the exception of special modifications, it is currently the single most expensive card in the set.
Magic: The Gathering's November 10th ban must not work in Quantum Riddler's favor
Quantum Riddler is so good that it can be played side by side MTGVivi Ornitier in Izzet Cauldron decks in Standard and some players are calling for it to be banned. Given the state of Modern, Quantum Riddler is unlikely to hit a ban there on November 10th, and it also seems unlikely to be banned in other formats at this point.
This may seem unrelated, but even the simple Vivi ban hypothesis suggested by Wizards of the Coast fell sharply in the official post. Since there is no real reason to ban Quantum Riddler yet, the price will likely rise or stabilize at around $60 or 110-120 tix, which is still too much for the average player to even get a full set of cards. This can affect Magic: The GatheringStandard decks 's the most because it's supposed to be one of the cheapest formats in the game, while Quantum Riddler's cost doesn't really affect the mid-cost of modern decks. Whether the price drops remains to be seen, but for now, this blue card is set to become a staple MTG adding to many packs in different formats – meaning it will get harder and harder to get.
