Before discussing the resurrection of Kite, it is important to understand who Kite is and his importance in the story. Kite is a skilled hunter and former student of Ging Freecss, Gon's father. He was first introduced in the manga as a critical figure in Gon's life, serving as a link to Gon's father. Gon and Kite are finally reunited in the Chimera Ant arc. Where Kite, Gon and Killua investigate the creation of chimera ants. During his investigation, he enters the realm of En Neferpitou, one of the Ant King's royal guards. Seconds before that, Kite says:

Why do I feel so bad about this? Like I'm missing something… an uneasiness I can't shake.

Neferpita proves to be terrifyingly powerful and despite Kit's incredible abilities, including his complex ability and Crazy Slots Nen weapons, she is no match for her. He was brutally killed while trying to make sure Gon and KIllua escaped, with Pitou taking his body and reviving it to use as a practice dummy. Kite's death sets Gon on a dark path as he realizes that they were probably the reason he was unable to escape. This leads to one of the most anticipated fight scenes in the series, transforming the innocent, sun-filled and warm-hearted protagonist into a character full of bloodlust for Neferpitou.

How Kite was reborn

Kite's Resurrection

In the Chimera Ant arc, one of the key points is the queen's ability to pass on her prey's unique traits to her offspring. When the queen eats humans, their traits and personalities can sometimes appear in newborn ants, with few retaining memories of their time as humans, though in most cases this is entirely subconscious. This ability is crucial to Kite's resurrection.

After his death, Kite's body was taken over by Pitou. Experimenting on his body, it is assumed that Pitou has been feeding Queen Kite's brain, due to some previous remarks she made to the queen about people's brains being the sweetest part. The Queen, after giving birth to the Ant King, also housed the Chimera ants with Kit's memories and consciousness. However, this should not have been possible as the Queen had focused all resources on giving birth to the Ant King, so Kite's new vessel should not have existed at all.

Crazy Slots and Kite's Survival Mechanism

Luck is the foundation of Kite's Character

The answer lies in Kite's Nen ability, Crazy Slots. Crazy Slots is a conjured weapon with Nen Beast Clown attached. It also features a unique roulette system, as one of the restrictions Kite placed on his Nen powers to increase the power of his conjured ability. Each number corresponds to a specific weapon or effect, and once that number is rolled, Kite must use that weapon before he can roll on another weapon.

When Gon meets his father Ging at the top of the World Tree; Ging explains to Gon that Kite's Crazy Slot has a special number with an ability meant to protect his life or ensure his survival, and it only rolls up when he has a strong will to live, but then what does the ability do? Many fans theorize that this may be a resurrection power. However, this does not fully fit the context of his abilities. Why would an ability that requires him to have an overwhelming need to live before it is triggered require him to die first? A more compelling theory emerges: the ability is based on luck, so huge that it ensures his survival in any situation where survival is possible.

The nature of Kite's Luck

How did he survive such an ordeal

Kite in Hunter x Hunter

To understand this, it is important to remember that Crazy Slot revolves around chance and luck. Kite's weapon roll generally provides rolls that require him to be versatile in his fighting style and adapt to adverse circumstances due to the limitations put in place by Kite. This dynamic reminds us of Greed Island's Risky Dice, except it works in reverse – by being unlucky most of the time, Kite ensures extreme luck when it matters most. Therefore, the special roll number is not a resurrection ability, but a manifestation of Kit's ultimate luck. It only activates in life or death situations where Kite has an overwhelming will to live, ensuring that he survives even in the most unlikely of situations.

Against Pitou, when death seems inevitable, this ability kicks in and doesn't work by reviving Kite, but using the only slim chance to escape total destruction: Chimera Ant Queen.

With the Queen's sole focus on raising King Meruem, the resources needed to create another child would not be available. Yet Kite's essence survived as another child, a rare and unlikely occurrence that can only be explained by extreme luck. Colt obtained Kite's new vessel from the corpse of the Chimera Ant Queen after Mereum's birth. Without his intervention, Kite would probably have perished, as the newborn ants were left to fend for themselves after the death of the queen. This is also a subtle nudge to Kite's crazy luck once the ability is activated. As a chimeric ant, Kite happens to have the features of a girl with long hair and red eyes. They also have a tail, a sign that even with seemingly human features, they are not human. The Hunting Association also declared the dragon and foals to be magical animals to protect them and prevent them from being hunted.
