Respawn Entertainment has just released a new update for Apex Legendsmaking some changes that should improve the game experience for players. While this latest Apex Legends the update includes no new content, fixes a number of bugs, and adjusts matchmaking to potentially level the playing field in the battle royale lobby.
The past few weeks have been exciting Apex Legends players. On March 10, the developer released the Apex Legends x Gundam Event, which brought a limited-time version of the Wildcard along with many new cosmetics based on the anime. The momentum continued at the end of the month as a mid-season update Apex Legends was released, shaking up Gibraltar, Wraith, and Wattson, in addition to making many other changes to Battle Royale. After this major update, the Aftershock event was launched to provide fans with in-game back-to-back events. While Season 29 is already on the horizon, smaller updates keep coming to improve the battle royale.
Apex Legends is now a brand new game
My friends and I return to Apex Legends after years to basically find a brand new game waiting for us.
The Apex Legends update makes changes to ranked and pub matchmaking
The most recent of these patches was released on April 14th and brought some much needed bug fixes to the game. According to the patch notes, things like Valkyrie's jetpack not displaying correctly and Hardlight audio bugs related to Wattson have been fixed. In addition, the patch included stability improvements for the Nintendo Switch 2 version Apex Legends. However, what many players will find more interesting are the matchmaking changes. Specifically, the developer noted that maximum queue times have been “slightly” increased for higher-skilled players in ranked and pubs. The goal of this change is to create a more even lobby across all skill levels.
It will be interesting to see what impact these changes could have on the battle royale lobby moving forward. Players on social media are hoping that longer queues could alleviate some of the problems with unbalanced matchmaking. But others fear the increased waiting time could be frustrating for pubs, given the occasional pop-up mode.
In addition to tweaks to queue times and various bug fixes, this April update for Apex Legends also made a change to the ranked tier distribution rankings for Drop Zone ranked matches. Notably, charts now show team rankings instead of individual players. Respawn also noted that a four-hour map rotation schedule was tested in East Asia. This test will run for the remainder of the second split of Season 28. Depending on the results of the test, this could mean that players in all regions will be able to play on different Apex Legends maps in Ranked more often during splits, which could prevent things from getting stale.

Hopefully the changes are listed in the latest Apex Legends patch will make the game better for fans. Like other popular battle royale games, matchmaking has always been a point of contention, so Respawn has regularly tried to tweak things as needed. It's possible that Season 29 could see even bigger changes, but the community will have to wait and see what's in store on that front.

We are slightly increasing the maximum queue times for players at the top end of ranked and pubs. We aim for tighter skill sets and more competitive play in all areas.

For matches ranked in the Drop Zone, we will display team ranked tier distribution tables, not individual players, in line with non-Drop Zone lobbies.
📋TESTING:

For the rest of the split, we're testing a 4-hour rotation schedule of ranked maps in East Asia. *We do not recommend changing servers as this will lead to much higher pings.
