Wolverine showcases Jean Gray and Sabretooth, pre-orders open today

Insomniac promised us more Wolverine in the spring. It was late — I'd technically call it this summer, but let's not kid ourselves — but the studio was just waiting for the biggest stage possible. That stage was the state of the game today, and Insomniac made sure the wait for the next Wolverine was worth it.

The biggest takeaway from our best look at Wolverine yet were the two other mutants we were shown. Jean Gray was shown using her telekinetic powers alongside Logan, while the extended play ended with Wolverine clashing with his long-time nemesis Sabretooth.

The new footage was also a welcome reminder of just how violent this game will be. Blood — lots of it — and our first look at how you'll help Logan heal when he's really up against it. After he's been knocked down and beaten beyond repair, at least for a normal mutant, a QTE will appear that you'll need to nail to keep Wolverine in the fight.

Wolverine's State of Play launch ended with confirmation that you'll be able to pre-order the game today once the show ends.

The other good news from the massive Wolverine update that kicked off today's State of Play is that the game's release date remains unchanged. Wolverine will still launch exclusively on PS5 on September 15, 2026, they're giving us two whole months to mow down villains like our favorite member of the X-Men before GTA 6 takes over the world. It means Insomniac will maintain its impressive reputation as a studio that almost never delays its games, at least not publicly. There were concerns that Wolverine's release date would be pushed back today, but that's not happening.
