Overwatch Announces 10th Anniversary Event and Rewards

Overwatch is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this month, and Blizzard has revealed a special in-game event for players to look forward to, as well as all the different loot boxes and rewards that will be available. It was a long and winding road Overwatch over the past 10 years with plenty of ups and downs for the popular hero shooter.

Many would argue that Blizzard lost their way a bit by ending the original Overwatch and replacing it with a dedicated sequel, the studio finally found its footing and continued to improve the game before releasing its biggest update to date. In February, Blizzard announced a massive overhaul Overwatch dropping the “2” from the title and completely overhauling the game's narrative element. In addition to many other improvements and changes, Blizzard has released 5 new heroes for Season 1, with 5 more to launch throughout the rest of the year. Not only was it a big draught, but it paid off Overwatch reach a new level of popularity.

Overwatch celebrates 10 years with a new event

Despite launching a sequel in 2023 and basically changing it back to Overwatch earlier this year, Blizzard announced plans to celebrate the franchise's 10th anniversary. original Overwatch launched on May 24th, 2016, and Blizzard is looking to celebrate that longevity. Overwatch Anniversary 2026 kicks off on May 12th and runs until June 1st with a number of cosmetic rewards also up for grabs, though it's currently unclear exactly what will be given out for free, what's paid, and what can potentially be earned.

The official's Twitter page Overwatch the account reveals many of the cosmetic rewards that will be available, though it lacks a few specifics that an accompanying trailer or blog post will likely fill in. For now, Blizzard has confirmed that the Anniversary event will feature 21 hero skins, 15 anniversary loot boxes, 33 development teams, and community 2D cosmetics such as banners and 5 unique weapon spells on display number 10, wings. Again, details on what the cosmetics will look like, as well as which characters will get them, remain unknown at this time, although Mercy, Tracer, and Winston are pictured. It is logical that the original Overwatch cast will be heavily featured as this is an annual event.

As for what players can potentially earn, the graphic mentions that players can earn exclusive anniversary titles. It also looks like a community challenge will be launched during the event where everyone will work together to complete challenges and earn Overwatchlegendary loot boxes every week. The post also teases “much more” and hints at more announcements to come before the event arrives this week.

Before the event begins, fans have a limited amount of time to earn more loot boxes by participating Overwatch's current event known as Junkrat's Loot Hunt. From May 8th to May 12th, players can earn up to nine free loot boxes by playing the game while doubling their Battle Pass XP earnings. With only a limited amount of time left to use, Blizzard isn't waiting to launch another lucrative event for players. Overwatch will then dive straight into the content of their anniversary.
