- The developers released a fix, but the issues persist; players were advised to try reinstalling.
Players on the Epic Games Store are having trouble with the platform's latest free-to-play game, Observer. The first reports indicated this Observer was completely unplayable, but it seems that even after the patch was released, the issues still persisted.
Every week, the Epic Games Store offers its users free games to download and keep forever. For November 2024, this list included a number of titles, including a Castlevania collection. While many players were excited to see Observer on the list, with some even saying they're happy to receive a second copy after having previously paid for it on Steam, not everyone has a smooth experience with the game.

Epic Games Store reveals free game for November 28th
The Epic Games Store is giving away a new free game while also confirming a bonus coming on November 28th.
Shortly after Observer went free on the Epic Games Store, players started reporting that the title simply wouldn't play. Most players said that after booting, the game would go to the Unity screen and then simply crash or freeze on a black window. To their credit, Observer devs coded, immediately released a response to the issue and that the team is looking into it. A patch was released shortly after, but it doesn't seem to have fixed all of the players' issues.
What's happening with Beholder Now?
There seem to be two persistent problems Observer at this time. A few players have reported that the Epic Games Store free game is still not working for them at all, but they seem to be in the minority. The main issue at the moment is that the game seems to have a bug that doesn't exist in other versions. According to the players, in one area of the game, NPCs who are supposed to leave the apartment instead either hang out by the door or continue their animation and go back in and out again. Players must be able to access this apartment (without NPCs) in order to continue playing, meaning those affected are stuck at this point.
When Observer launched the fix, noting that players with remaining issues should try restarting the game. However, no one has yet responded to the new concerns regarding the game, and it's unclear from users if players have had any success with this supposed fix. However, given the speed with which the first patch was released, hopefully these new issues will be resolved soon.
It's not clear what exactly went wrong with the game, or if the bug was already present in this version of the game, or if it was somehow caused by a patch the team implemented. For now, players can only sit and wait. Fortunately, since this is a free-to-play game, no one has to feel like they've been cheated out of their money. with any luck Observer it will work properly again and a whole new bunch of players can enjoy it for the first time. Meanwhile, there are more free games available on Epic throughout November, so players may want to check them out while they wait.
